Principal Sabrina Pressley's Letter

Dear Oak View Community,

Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! What a wonderful first few days we’ve had together. There were a few tears of separation anxiety as the little ones headed into class; however, the students were all smiles and hugs as they met their new teachers and friends.

It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself, Sabrina Pressley, as the new Principal of Oak View Elementary School. I welcome the opportunity to serve the Oak View learning and teaching community and look forward to working with a dynamic staff, dedicated parents, and involved community members. Most of all, I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work at Oak View Elementary School.

I have benefitted from an excellent DeKalb County School District education myself, having been born and raised in DeKalb County. I attended Midway Elementary (K-7) and Avondale High School (8-12). After graduating from Georgia State University, I returned to DeKalb as a teacher at Avondale Middle School where I served for eight years. After earning my Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, I served as an Assistant Principal at Redan Middle School and Tucker High School. These experiences have given me a solid understanding of what elementary students need in order to be prepared and successful in middle school, high school and life beyond their K-12 education.

I know that Oak View Elementary has a history of great administrators and leaders. I fully understand that I have some big shoes to fill. Rest assured that my goal will be to continue building on what everyone has worked so hard to achieve, and to use that strong foundation to move Oak View Elementary to the next level. Together we will MAXIMIZE POTENTIAL and provide outstanding educational opportunities and promote academic excellence for all of our students.

Whether you have been a part of the Oak View community for several years or this is your first year with us, I want to encourage you to be “plugged in” this year. A few things to note to help our year go more smoothly. Doors open at 7:00 a.m. for breakfast and students transition to class at 7:20a.m. The school day begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. and all students entering after that time must be escorted by a parent for a tardy pass. Early release ends at 1:30p.m. and dismissal begins at 2:00 p.m. promptly.

I look forward to the opportunity to meet and begin my relationship with the students, staff, and families of the Oak View Elementary School community. My door is always open to you.

Educationally yours,

Sabrina Pressley

Principal
